HE is truly present. This is what Catholics believe: Jesus is truly present to us in the Eucharist. The consecrated bread and wine are not just a representation or reminder of Jesus, because when we receive Communion we actually receive our Lord in this form (for adults it’s called transubstantiation). Certainly this is a very hard concept for children to understand. So when they are preparing for the sacrament of First Holy Communion, the best we can do is teach them that some things are not easy to understand, so we must rely on our faith. We believe that Jesus is present in the Eucharist because that is what he told us at the Last Supper, the night before he died. He asked us to “do this in memory of me.”
My Pal for First Eucharist is a meaningful gift and a wonderful companion for children as they walk through their faith journey. Why not give a First Communicant something that is helpful, long – lasting and directly related to the special occasion?
