Today is Ash Wednesday, a great time for Christians to think about our faith. We especially are going to be mindful of making sacrifices during the 40 days of Lent leading up to our most joyous time of year: Easter! The sacrifices of Lent remind us of the greatest sacrifice of all, when Christ died for us on a cross… the same sacrifice that is remembered every day in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist at mass.
Our children need to learn about and begin to understand the Eucharist as the sacrament that keeps them close to Jesus. As a second grade catechist, I have seen over the years that it can be very difficult for seven year olds to grasp the concepts and true meaning of their First Holy Communion. After many years of praying and contemplating, I decided that a great way to help children making this sacrament would be to give them an opportunity to learn through play, hence the purpose and creation of My Pal for First Eucharist. Our beautiful dolls make a versatile religious gift, because they can be given as a traditional First Holy Communion keepsake gift and/or as I have intended them to be: a doll with which they can learn, imagine, pray and role play.
